Ty

Ty-Ty was adopted at three months old. I fell in love with those eyes and had to have him.  He has Trisomy 9p.  It's a VERY rare chromosomal abnormality.  He has about as much extra genetic material as a person with down's syndrome, but it's not the same chromosome.

He has a slew of medical issues that come along with his syndrome.  He suffers from a heart defect.  He has long outlived his life expectancy.  He is mentally retarded.  He tests at about a kindergarten/1st grade level.  He loves school, loves his friends, loves birthday's and parties.  He recently got braces and he has added the dentist to his list of obsessions. He asks me daily if we can go to the dentist.

"We go dentist today?"

"No Ty we just went to the dentist."

"Morrow?"

"No, five weeks."

"Maybe Friday?"

He is enough to wear me out.  He is a mentally exhausting child.  It takes a sense of humor to tolerate Ty.

Puberty has been HELL! He shows everyone his 'man hair."  He gets pissed off often and makes horrible choices in his rage.  That saying, "You can't reason with insanity."  That needs to be painted on my wall.

Ty is going to be a freshman this year at Tesoro.  He is nervous and excited and he asks me everyday when he can go.  I'll tell you what, I am counting the days too.

If you want to read more of Ty's adoption story, I wrote about it here.
