Happy Eighth Birthday Jace Carter!!

Posted by Sandi in Jace, birthday

Baby Boy-

You still, eight years later, have possession of my heart and soul.  You are an amazing young man.  I have NO IDEA how you turned into a young man….  I feel like I should still be looking for your binky.  Speaking of that binky…. man you loved that thing.  It's been out of your life for exactly six years.  I hope I didn't do any permanent damage by taking it away.

I am so proud of you Jace.  You are a great helper, an amazing example, a phenomenal athlete, and a fabulous son.  I also need to add what a great brother you are.  You have perfected the art of being both the big brother and the little brother simultaneously. That is not easy to do.

You are sluffing school to stay home with me today.  We can go to lunch and go shopping for God knows what, and spend some time hanging out.  I LOVE doing birthdays with you!  Where are we going to eat?  What are you going to buy at the store?  It's so much fun for me to see what you will choose to do.

Speaking of fun, it's the year of birthday parties.  Last year we didn't do "friend" parties.  This year?  Heck yeah!  Saturday at Scooter's jungle with your entire class.  What a blast!  I love watching you with your friends.  You are an amazing friend.  Did you know that I get emails and phone calls from your friend's parents telling me how sweet you are?  That makes me so proud of you.  What that says to me, is that even when you think nobody is paying attention to you and your actions, you still choose the right.  You are a sweet boy all of the time, not just when you think you are being watched by me or the teacher.  I love that about you.  Keep doing it!

I love you so much.  You are my Alabama boy.  I will always remember meeting you for the first time.  It felt like I had known you for years when I saw you that day.  I think God knew we belonged together.  I am so glad you found your way to me.  Thank you for being such a great kid.  I love you Jace Carter.

Love, mom

Wednesdays are my favorite

Posted by Sandi in Jace, Jasmine, Kate, My kids

I love Wednesdays. They are a little bit different than the other days in the week for multiple reasons. But this post is about early out day.  You see all my elementary aged kids get out early on Wednesdays.  That means I pick up Jace, Jazzi and Kate BEFORE I pick up Hunter.  I don’t have time to take them home before I have to get on the freeway so they come along for the ride and I always get them a drink or a shake on Wednesdays to make up for being stuck in the car for an hour.

Personally, I love it.  I am never more entertained than I am on Wednesday afternoons listening to those three.  This past Wednesday, we pulled right up next a car being driven by a young girl, maybe early twenties.  She was beautiful.  BUT she had a cigarette in her mouth.

Jace started, "That girl is ruining our environment.  When she is done smoking that thing, she is going to toss it out the window and it will never go away.  It will get in our oceans and kill our fish."

Kate said, " That girl is ruining her lungs.  She is going to die you know.  Every time she sucks in, she is breathing poisonous stuff into her body.  It will give her cancer or make her die."

Jasmine sat listening for a minute while Kate and Jace argued back and forth over what was worse, her dying, or the fish dying.

Jazzi finally piped up with, "I’ll tell you both what she is going to ruin….. HER LIPSTICK."

And the light changed and we drove away.

if that little conversation in the back seat didn’t sum up my three…..

I chuckled all the way home.

Two more hours until pick up.  I can’t wait to hear what they will talk about today.  I love my monsters.

Sunday’s swim

Posted by Sandi in Jace

This is what we did all day long on Sunday.  This was our regions semi-finals.  We’ve been telling Jace all season that this was his last race.  But guess what?  He made it to the finals!  This heat placed him in second place based on overall time.  He is representing the Ladera Liquids in his division in the back stroke.  GO JACE!  He got two firsts in his individuals and two seconds in his relay races.

In our region we compete against, The Tustin Dolphins, The Orange County Wave, and Splash Aquatics (newport beach).  SInce I am a newbie to this sport I have no idea who we are racing against tonight. I am told this is A. BIG. DEAL. I am just a proud mama that my little guy is there.

I will let you all know how our team does tonight!  You can all rest assured I will be there with a raging headache, lots are tears, and the loudest cheers of all!  I wonder if I will ever stop crying when he races?  ….probably not

Go Jace Carter!!

Today

Posted by Sandi in Jace, Jasmine, My kids, Tylon

We had swimming lessons-

Kate

Jazzi

Then we raced like crazy people to Anaheim for Jazzi’s hairdo.

Jazzi

Jazzi

Gorgeous

I left Shaylee in Anaheim with Jazzi so I could do the other hundred things I had to today. In fact, I haven’t even seen Jazzi at the writing of this post.  She is in bed asleep and I am only getting to see the pictures.  Thank you Shay for doing this most unpleasant job and taking pictures for me.

 Meanwhile…

Ty got his braces on-

notice how far over in the chair he is.

nice teeth Ty

He is such a pansy.  He was excited and terrified and he continued to talk to us even with this contraption in his mouth.

"I done?"

"No, not yet."

"Almost?"

"No Ty, stop talking."

"Not scary huh?"

"Shut up Ty, you keep getting your teeth wet."

"I good huh?"

"SHHHHHHHH"

Ty looks around

"I done?"

He gave the office a run for their money.

I had to hold his hand the entire time

Checking them out

I made it home from Ty’s appointment just in time to get Kate to ballet, sans Jazzi, and Jace to his swim meet. We were late, but we made it for a warm up.

Brandon returned to Anaheim in the traffic to fetch the girls and made it back just in time to witness our boy kick some ass in the meet.  I can’t wait to see the official results of this heat because I think Jace may have won it.  BUT, we will happily take a second.  Jace is a force!

I didn’t think I could pull it all off this morning, but we did it.  "We" being the key word.

How did this happen?

Posted by Sandi in Jace, Jasmine, Kate, My kids

The babies

The babies

I am clearly over feeding and over sleeping them.

They are growing so fast, I can see it happening.

This group right here, we call them, "The babies."

We have a new group of babies, but this little group has yet to lose the name.

This picture makes me melancholy. They are clearly small people, not babies anymore.  Kinda breaks my heart.

To Jace, Jazz and Kate-

SLOW DOWN!  I am not ready for you three to grow up yet.

love, mom

My Chosen Child

Posted by Sandi in Jace

Jace Carter seven years old

At the request of one of my loyal readers I am dedicating this entire post to Jace Carter.  I am VERY lucky that I have a reader to thank for this request because I get shit all the time from the older kids, accusing me of having favorites, and of Jace being one of those favorites.

This favorite child thing is tricky business.  I have so many kids and I love them all the same, but I like them all for different reasons.  If I am going shopping, hands down, Shaylee and Hadley are my girls.  Bronson and Hunter are HELL to take to the mall.  If I am in a beach mood, the little kids are ALWAYS ready to go to the beach.  The big kids only go when, and if, all their beach specifications are met.  Time, length of stay, temperature, and “Only if we can eat at Gallows.” Sometimes, I just want to go and hang out.  I don’t want to mess with the boogie boards and walking all the way to Gallows.  So, you all understand me here, right?  There is a kid for every season.

With Jace, he is kid for all seasons.  He is the most lovable child, the sweetest, most thoughtful, happy go lucky, athletic, fun, and charming kid.  He is PERFECT. He is also a mama’s boy.  Now, Parker is a mama’s boy too, but he is still a mean shit.  He pitches fits and throws toys and bangs his head if life isn’t going his way.  Jace would have NEVER done those things, even at Parker’s age. He has been a LOVE from moment one.

Here is a great example, the other day, as I got out of the car, Brandon said to me, “You are beautiful baby.”

To which I replied, “I wish I was because you deserve a beautiful wife.”

Jace happened to be in the front yard shooting hoops when he overheard this conversation.  He ran right over and said, “You want to be beautiful?  YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL!”  And he said it with the most sincere seven-year-old heart and with such conviction that I believed him.   For a split second I felt GORGEOUS!

He is always telling me how happy he is, and how great of a mom I am. He thanks me for everything.  He is enough to melt the heart of anyone and everyone.  At swim team, all the coaches LOVE Jace.  Every single coach on deck knows him by name, whether he swims in their lane or not, he is loved by all.

 one in each hand

Add all of this to the fact that he is the cutest thing EVER and I just can’t help myself.  He is the ‘Chosen Child’.  I am not sure what to do about it.  He knows he has me wrapped around his finger and I guess the rest of the kids know it too.  Maybe they should just take some notes and be a little bit more Jace like.

I spent most of yesterday writing this post in the salon while Kate was getting braided up.  Shaylee asked what I was writing about. I replied, “Jace.”

She said, “Here let me help you.” and took the laptop, and typed, “Jace Carter is my favorite.”

A moment later, one of the ladies at the salon asked me if I have had to deal with jealously in a family so big.  I smiled and pointed to Shaylee and replied, “Only with this one.”

Shaylee went off on a rant about how she knows I like Jace the most and it bugs her that I won’t admit it.

The lady asked Shaylee why she thought he was the favorite and this was her response.

“Because, when my mom had her boob job five years ago, and she was on all sorts of narcotics, she told us all that she loved him the most.”

…and there you have it.

Here’s hoping you all have a little Jace in your life.

PS. According to Hadley, Jace is just a suck up and acts like a shit when I am not around.

Brandon gets knocked over in the middle of the race, but you can still see the finish.  YAY JACE!!

WTH?

Posted by Sandi in Jace, My kids

Jace is home from school today with Pink eye.  He is in the other room playing Wii fit.

He yells to me, “Mom, when was I born?”

“January 20, 2002″

“Hey!  That’s my birthday.  I was born on my birthday?  That’s cool!”
